D-shackle

Screw-pin D-shackle, galvanized or stainless, for quick, strong corner links.

A D-shackle is a U-shaped steel body closed by a screw pin. It links two fittings that cannot be pinned directly: a rope eye to a corner plate, a turnbuckle to an anchor lug, or a cable to a mast-head ring. On shades it is often the last link between the membrane corner and the steel. The D shape keeps the load in one straight line. Choose the size to suit the load and the holes, and secure the pin so it cannot unscrew.

Also called dee shackle, chain shackle, screw-pin shackle, bow shackle

Where it is used

  • Linking a rope eye or thimble to a corner plate
  • Connecting turnbuckles to anchor lugs
  • Mast-head and ring connections

Questions about this part

D-shackle or bow shackle?

A D-shackle suits a straight, single-direction pull, which is the usual case at a shade corner. A bow shackle has a rounder body that copes better with pulls from more than one direction.

Galvanized or stainless shackle?

Galvanized is the common economical choice for Riyadh's dry climate. Stainless gives a cleaner look on visible corners and is preferred near pools or the coast. For lifting, use only shackles marked with a rated working load.

How do I stop the pin from unscrewing?

Tighten the pin fully, then tie it through its eye to the shackle body with stainless wire. Check it during routine maintenance.
